Birgitta
My first larger commercial project involved the design and crafting of 20 elegant chairs for the highly anticipated opening of the restaurant Fitzroy in the charming town of Fowey, Cornwall.
Housed within a beautifully restored former bank building, the chair features a refined design that draws inspiration from rustic milking stools, striking a balance between style and functionality. Made from oak sourced from trees that were felled just 30 minutes away from the restaurant, this piece not only embodies an aesthetic sensibility but also echoes the ethos of a restaurant that takes immense pride in creating exceptional food using local, in-season ingredients.
Like its namesake — my mum! — this project has significantly shaped my identity as a maker, leaving a lasting impact on my journey as a designer-maker to date.
